President Rodrigo Duterte assured he remains in good health after submitting himself into a number of medical procedures.

From the procedure, he said, his doctor diagnosed him with Barrett’s esophagus or medically known as gastroesophageal reflux disease.

The President said he was told that the disease was a result of his too much drinking and smoking.

“I had my colonoscopy and endoscopy about a week ago. Joey did the procedure and he said that… Well, I have a bad case of Barrett. He said, ‘If you’ll just stop drinking, you will live,’ ” the President said in a speech at an event with the Asia Pacific Association of Gastroenterology in Lapu-Lapu City on Friday, September 21.

President Duterte also admitted his other health conditions such as suffering from perpetual pain due to a spine injury, as well as constipation – the same condition as his mother and his son, Sebastian.

“Historically, I took after my mother who was always constipated. That was her complaint, but she lived to be 96 years old. So if you want to live forever, pray for constipation,” Duterte said.

Despite some health issues, Duterte said that overall, he is in good health.

“Maybe God is sometimes kind. He builds your immune system that good. Some of them are… I’m 73, and they are still very good, still healthy, no problem,” the President said. – Marje Pelayo (with reports from Rosalie Coz)
